Gutter guard install day in Mackay: what actually happens, stage by stage.
A single-storey Mackay home is one day: on site around 7am, off site between 2pm and 4pm. Two-storey or steep tile is a day and a half to two days. You need to be there for the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes, not the middle. Expect one noisy hour, no chemicals, no power from your house, and every offcut off the ground before we leave.
This page is the whole day written down, because the most common thing people tell us afterwards is that they did not know what to expect. Timings below are for a typical 60 lineal metre single-storey house in the Mackay urban area. Add 15 to 30 percent to every on-roof stage for a two-storey or a steep tile roof, which is the same loading you see on the pricing page.

What actually stalls a Mackay install
Weather, and how we handle it
Between December and March the wet decides the calendar, not us. We do not work on a wet roof, and we come down if there is lightning in the area. The call is made off the radar by 6am so nobody sits around waiting, and a rescheduled day costs you nothing. If your job is already in the queue when a system crosses the coast, expect the whole book to shuffle by a few days: overflow callouts jump the line because water is getting inside somebody’s house. That is the honest reason we push installs into the April to September dry wherever we can, and it is why prices and lead times are better then.
Access, parking, power and water
We need a ute and trailer within reasonable carry distance, level footing for ladders along each wall, and a path through to the back. On the older high-set homes around Glenella and North Mackay the back yard is often the tight part, and a locked side gate at 7am is the single most common start-time delay. We run our own battery tools and compressor, so we do not need your power. We do ask for an outside tap for the flush test, which is a few litres per run rather than a wash-down, and if you are on tank water only we bring our own.
Surprises found on the roof
The two we find most often are a rusted gutter section hidden under packed leaf, and brackets that have pulled out of a softened fascia. Both were invisible from the ground at the measure. When we find one, work stops on that run and we send you a photo and a price. We do not do extra work and add it to the invoice. If the gutter is beyond a patch, the honest answer is replacement at $45 to $90 per lineal metre before any mesh goes on, and we would rather reschedule than seal a rusted gutter under a new guard.
Noise, dust, smell and living around it
The loudest hour is the clear-out. A blower on the roof plus buckets of wet leaf coming down a ladder is not subtle. After that it is an impact driver and tin snips, on and off, for 3 to 5 hours. Nothing on the job involves paint, solvents or fumes. The one genuine smell is wet leaf mulch, which is why the buckets go straight into the trailer instead of a pile on your lawn, especially in February when the mulch has been sitting wet for weeks.
Dust is fine roof grit and dried cane ash, and it travels further than people expect on a breezy day. Windows shut on the working side, washing off the line, and it is a non-issue. If somebody in the house has asthma or a respiratory condition, tell us at the measure and we will start on the far side of the house and work toward the bedrooms rather than away from them.
Working from home is completely workable. Tell us which room you are in and which hour your important call is, and we will sequence around it. We would rather move the noisy stage than have you sitting through it.
What a clean site actually looks like
Before we leave: every run flushed and photographed, all leaf and ash bagged, metal offcuts collected for recycling, drop sheets lifted, and a magnet run over the driveway and paths for dropped screws. Garden beds along the wall get a look and a hand pick. The green waste and offcuts leave in our trailer and go to a licensed Mackay Regional Council waste facility, sorted between green waste and metal. Nothing goes into your bin and nothing gets left behind the shed. If you find a single offcut in the garden after we go, tell us and we come back for it.
The honest limits of a one-day job
- We will not finish a two-storey in a day just because it was booked as one. If the access setup shows the job needs two days, you get told at the measure, in writing, not at 3pm on day one.
- We do not cut trees. Anything more than a light hand-trim of a small branch is an arborist job. We will tell you which limb is causing the problem and leave it there.
- We do not walk brittle old tile roofs. On a fragile tile roof the work happens off ladders and roof boards, which is slower and costs more. Cracking six tiles to save an hour is not a saving.
